Informal Practice: Slow It Down

Informal Practice

Several times throughout the day, imagine you can take your foot off the proverbial gas pedal and slow things down. You don't have to come to a complete stop, but reduce your speed enough to bring you into the present. Here are a couple ideas:

  • Lower your coffee cup at half the speed you normally would.
  • Pay attention to each word as you read, rather than skimming.
  • Take a breath before answering a question. 
  • Single-task instead of multi-task.
  • Stroll instead of power walk.
  • Slow down your yoga or stretching routine.
