Your Two Selves
Your "Big Self" is the part of you that is timeless, compassionate, and present. This self is unlimited, wise, and is probably the part of you that you associate with your higher power, soul, or spirit.
Your "little self" is the part of you that reacts in times of crisis, or that feels stuck and small. This self tends to turn away from or latch on to suffering. It is the one that is overwhelmed with stress and worry even when it is not actually being threatened.
The little self is in great need of compassion from your Big Self.
Big Self, Small Self Informal Practice
This is a combination of the formal "Who Am I Now?" meditation from this module, and the Mindful Awareness Break from Module 2.
Once a day, when you remember to remember, pause. Ask yourself:
Who Am I In This Moment?
Notice if you are embodying your Big Self or little self. If you are living from your Big Self, carry on! If you find you are experiencing life through the eyes of your small self, offer it compassion. Choose what to hold on to, and what to let go.
