Written Reflection For Module 1

Your body is with you all the time. And yet we so often forget to listen to the very strong messages it is trying to send our way. This week, you get to take some time to come home to your body, whether you and your body are deeply connected or barely on speaking terms. Your body is also grieving, and it needs a little TLC. The first step toward tending to your grieving body is to listen to what it has to say.

Try A Little Mindful Movement Before You Write

You may find this exercise more beneficial if you FIRST practice one of the guided meditations from this week: take a brisk walk, practice yoga, or engage in any other physical activity.

Alternatively, spend some time engaging in self-massage. Rub your scalp, face, and shoulders, or give yourself a good foot massage. Connecting to your body in this way is the first step toward releasing stress and tension, and it will help you get out of your "head" and into your "body" before you write.

Remember the journaling guidelines: keep your pen, pencil, or fingers moving, and don't censor yourself! If you don't know what to write, spend the time writing "I don't know what to write. I don't know what to write. I don't know what to write." Over and over and over again. Eventually, something will come to you!

Writing Prompt: My Body's Story

Imagine that your body had a voice and could tell you its history. What would it want to say? Begin your entry with these words:

“I am your body and this is my story. It all started when ___________________.”
